John 10:10
Oct 16, 2024
This past month has been extremely difficult. Every breath for Ben this last month has been met with constant discomfort and pain. He has had four fluid drains at this point and they don’t seem to offer as much relief as the medical team was hoping as the lung (only right lung) is refilling rather quickly. He has also undergone five days of radiation treatments on his lung to hopefully reduce the size of some of the lymph nodes that are blocking one of his airways. Additionally, there is the constant juggle of enough pain medication to get him comfortable but not too much that he experiences the negative side effects of the meds. This month has felt like an overall loss.
Yesterday we arrived at the Cancer Center for his scheduled infusion but after the team saw him they assessed that he needed to be admitted to the hospital. The hope with admitting him is that a larger team can assess all the issues without us having to go back and forth to outpatient appointments, he can be seen by everyone more urgently if he is admitted. While we were waiting on a room, we were called by his team and were told to report straight to the ER. The fluid build up was so large (even though he got 2.8 L drained on Friday) that the fluid was pushing on his heart.
Thankfully, he was able to be seen emergently and they were able to remove enough to relieve the pressure from his heart. He was able to get on oxygen and pain medication and stayed in the ER last night. He will be admitted and stay here for the next few days with the hopes of getting a permanent catheter so we can do fluid drains more regularly (at home) and come up with a pain management plan that will help.
Specifically, please pray for:
Ben to experience as little pain as possible and ultimately a covering of the Lord’s peace.
Comfort for ALL of us - it's always hard on all of us when he is in the hospital.
For supernatural peace, strength and perseverance for myself - I am weary.
Thank you for covering all of us 🙏🏻 When I look at this past month and see how much has been taken I am constantly reminded of John 10:10 “The thief comes to only steal and kill and destroy” and I replace the word thief with cancer.
Cancer comes to steal, kill and destroy. It does.
BUT, thankfully we have one of God’s promises in the second half of that verse, “The thief comes to only steal and kill and destroy, I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Amen.
