Surgery Updates

November 28, 2023

This last month has been BUSY but we are so grateful. Ben’s month off of treatment has held a lot of traveling, celebrations and best of all, great family memories.

We had an appointment with his liver surgeon and went over his most recent MRI results (taken the week of Thanksgiving). The results showed that the last few rounds of chemo continued to have a great response to the spots on his liver. They have all reduced significantly! The largest lesion is also reducing in the “correct” direction, away from the portal vein, something the surgeon has emphasized while looking at imaging.

Ben will undergo surgery on his liver on Tuesday, Dec. 12. During this surgery they will remove the small spots (5) on the left lobe of his liver. They will also be implanting a pump in his abdomen that will allow for chemotherapy to be pumped directly to his liver to continue to target the largest lesion in his right lobe. He will spend a few days in the hospital but by Christmas he should be relatively back to normal (probably not back at CrossFit but otherwise normal 🙂).

We know that early 2024 will include chemotherapy through the pump and most likely radiation on his colon as a preventative measure to avoid surgery in that area.

Please pray specifically:

  1. That the surgeon is able to remove all the cancer in his left lobe while keeping all healthy tissue intact.

  2. That the recovery process will be smooth and with little pain as possible.

We continue to be immensely grateful for all of you that have continued to petition on behalf of our family for the past 6 months.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
